Since i can't get down to washington very often, i would place 5-6 LARGE orders every year to last me. Will there be customs charges tacked onto UPS shipments?

It depends about how you go about it. I'm assuming you are talking about shiipping to a Washington state address.

If you use Northerner they will tack on the taxes appropriate for the address you are shipping to (washington State?) before UPS even picks up the package.
If you use Buysnus, shipped from Sweden, then (atleast for the time being) you'll avoid Washington State taxes but your shipping expenses will be higher.

I keep hearing that the U.S. will collapse without tobacco taxes, I'm not sure though it's only what 3-5 percent of the economy and 5-10 percent of taxes, and besides if we didn't spend money on tobacco we'd spend it on something else. Hell we'd probably start eating more and they'd tax that. I do agree tobacco taxes are getting to the point on the laffer curve where they make less money, not to mention how regressive they are. For example in Wa. cigs used to be 3.50 like five years ago which I know because an old gas station that closed down had that sign, now they're 7.00 minimum, and rolling tobacco went from two fifty an ounce to 12-15 bucks. I also saw that Husky dip was 9.00 a log(10 cans) and now it's 4.50 a can. It can cost 8 dollars for a bag of redman in Wa easy.

Massachusetts Department of Revenue collected $587 million in cigarette taxes and $72 million from the alcohol excise tax in 2009. With so many people quitting smoking because it's illegal to smoke anywhere except in your car or home, what are they going to tax next? Pot? If they need the money from tobacco so much, why are they making it so difficult for us to get it? I don't get it... It's totally illogical. That's why I like computers so much, because they're more logical than politicians! :-)

This isn't about saving lives, unfortunately. If it was, we'd still be able to buy Swedish Snus. I'll never be able to retire, so enjoy your retirement, because I'm paying for it.

It works out to about $15 for a 24g tin of portions here in Alberta. The last package that got inspected I was charged $54 in taxes/duty on 7 cans. Not every package gets inspected though, so I keep rolling the dice. I've had 2 packages with 2 tins of loose in them come through OK. I don't know if that's coincidence or if I might be on to something there...

Smokes are about $11 for a pack of 25, but I don't think I'd ever go back to those. Copenhagen or Skoal dip is about $23/tin I think.

As far as I can tell there is hardly any tax on tobacco in the maritimes, a distributor there would probably do brisk business.

Yea I want to ship to a wa state address. I think I will try buysnus for 4-5 rolls of Vit portions. do you think it will be cheaper to do higher shipping rates VS WA state taxes? Or is it a total gamble like it is here?
