Yeah true. I've just had a brainwave. Red man is made by Swedish match and I'm sure I read that it has uniquely low tsna level like that of snus. I'd have to do a bit of research but red man chew is easy to get hold of.

Let me know what you find out Vulpes. It has sugar in though i think which isn't too good for your teeth. If only those twists could be made with air-cured tobacco and then pasteurised - i'd buy it by the lorry load.

I'm not sure I'd trust a fire cured tobacco, low TNSAs or not, I'll be honest.

              Any further research?

              Hi Ansel,

Just wondering if you've had any more thoughts on chew/twist?

Well Vulpes, i enjoyed some Oliver Twist over the weekend but i have to put 3 in at once. My minds not made up on the safety of it yet but i must admit it is very effective. I emailed Gawith Hoggarth to see if they can produce an air-cured and possibly pasteurised version of their twists, but as yet no reply.

I love mixing up snus with Oliver twists, they have a much richer flavour than lakrits snus. Remember only the original is fire-cured. That's a good idea to contact gawith & hoggart, let us know if they reply.

The royal is air cured as far as I know, as are all the rest apart from original, which is fire-cured and fermented.

Their website isn't that clear tbh

                          Great thread title!

I've had a try of nearly all the plug twists you can get in the UK - but none touches the Swedish Match Tobacco Cuts they made a few years ago which were brilliant.

I find Oliver Twists a bit small and sweet - and I'm not fond of the flavour being mainly liquorice - even when it's eucalyptus! But Grimm & Triepel chewing tobacco sticks are even sweeter - they hurt my teeth just thinking about them!

I thought I'd found it when I got some of the Gawith pigtail twist in a rope. I cut off a little bit and it looked like a nice fat version of the Swedish Match cuts. But then I put it in my mouth and oh dear God it was disgusting. It's not just a bit fire cured - it tastes like it's spent two years in the exhaust pipe of a clapped out Austin Allegro. It certainly had nicotine in it - but if it was a choice between that and giving up then I think I'd give up like a shot.

I gave it one more try with a couple of plug twists from the USA - King B and Cotton Boll twist are available from Snus.de and I got one of each. The King B is still a bit sweet like Oliver Twists, but the Cotton Boll just tastes totally natural and air dried (I'm not 100% certain it is though). As a result it's really quite dry like a cigar - not soft and supple like the sweeter ones so you need to give a bit of a chew on it before it's comfortable and releasing it's juice. I think the Cotton Boll is the closest to the holy grail I've tried that's still out there - it gives a nice big amount of nicotine - can sit in the top lip and works well.

I'm going to be trying to grow some tobacco next year and I think I will be trying to see if I can make some kind of salty air-dried snus-like twist for myself until Swedish Match get their arses in gear and make the product we all want and can legally buy here.
