Snus Producers- Does your product contain sweetners?

    Dear Snus Gods,

A few friends and I were wondering if you use sweetners in your snus. I would like to know which products have no sweetners, which use real sugar, which use high fructose corn syrup, and which use artifical sweetners.

Or someone could just teach me what to look for on snus labels that means those things .

    Amen,
    Zimobog

what i do to see the ingredients is going to schweden-snus.com they list the ingredients list of the cans.. there you exactly see whats in there..
i dont know a snus containing sugar but there are some containing sweeteners, but they also are very rare (jakobsson melon for example uses sweetener)..
but as i said usually there is no sweetener/sugar in snus..

Well, use of sugar is banned in Swedish Snus, rots your teeth, High Fructose Corn syrup would do the same thing, and as far as artificial sweeteners, yes they use it in the flavored snus such as a berry flavor.

Usually you can tell which ones from the crappy artificial sweetener taste, and aftertaste. But over 90% of snus contains no type of natural or artificial sweeteners.

Glycerol is about 60% as sweet as sugar, has 30% more calories than sugar, doesn't promote tooth decay, and is the humectant in many snuses (E422). I find it especially pronounced in V2's snuses. The other humectant used in snus is propylene glycol (E1520), which is not sweet.

That is very useful, UsualSnuspects. Do you know in what amounts it is used?

I didn't until you asked! Though they seem to only use PG (not sweet), here's SM's breakdown of their products in mg/g: http://www.swedishmatch.com/en/Our-b...in-snus/?tab=0

Roda & Prima Fint both seem to have glycerol @ 30mg/g, so that's 3% E422 by weight.

Interesting... I found an article about glycerol on a bodybuilding site about it's use in "power bar" type concoctions. Apparently, the author states that it used to help the bars retain moisture. I bet it's used in snus for the same reason (to help keep it moist longer). It is a sugar alcohol so it isn't exactly verboten in the anti-carb diet world.

You've been a huge help, UsualSnuspects!

Excellent the schweden.com site! I chose the british flag to get English and put ingredients in the search box. Wonderful! Great thread and info.
