BigBlue - very bad show indeed.

aww thanks folks - alls cool

My name is Raylene - i live in Australia - I have started using the name Di Rhea because I seem to give everyone the sh*ts lol

I don't know if its my cons making me sooky or my not smoking - making me crazy but of late i seem to be stepping on a lot of toes lol hence the name

So thanks to a really nice and helpful bloke on here - i have been able to work out i have to eliminate a slice of bread and my glass of fruit juice and that will compensate for the salt levels in white mini portions that i use - and if i get too worried then i will wash it as suggested and eliminate more salt.

I am really fascinated to try Oliver Twist Tropical - i have searched the internet to find their list of ingredients but it does not appear to have salt. Can anyone point me to where i would verify this or not.

I have emailed heaps of manufacturers since finding out snus was salted but so far no one has responded but i dont even think your weekend is over yet. So waiting patiently

After all the silly crap I get into around here, every once and a while I get to actually man up and help somebody out around here and it makes my world a better place, and I am happy to do it. And this problem was resolved with a hopefully beneficial outcome. I first came here scared and hurting worse than you could imagine, and there were some good people who helped me along. Lxsklr, Sage, and snusgetter (RIP). Pay it forward.

Also I want credit for not once asking what she was wearing!

I'm not sure about what is available to Australians but I am assuming oliver twist would be lower in salt than snus.
If it is available to you you could also try nasal snuff (awaiting on my first order of the stuff so i can't comment on if it will satisfy)
I doubt its available simply because i know its not available anywhere near me in the states but camel was (is?) producing stuff like camel orbs and stix and other kinds of weird things you basically get nicotine from by dissolving in your mouth.
If you truly love snus just wait for a response from some manufacturers. Although I'm sure its not readily available companies should get back to you about salt content and there has to be some certain snuses that are lower in salt than other. I know swedish match replied to someone about tsna levels once.

I think the Oliver Twists do have salt in them, I can taste it in the original ones as I think they are made the same way as tobacco cuts (Picanel et al) which do taste a bit salty. If you email the OT guys they will respond quickly about any queries .

The only commercially available salt free oral tobacco I can think of is Cotton Boll Twist tobacco which we can buy from the USA here in the UK ... in Oz I don't know if it's gettable. It's an air dried tobacco "rope" that you can slice portions from - it's very dry and takes some getting used to - but delivers good nicotine without any additives as far as I can tell.

Apart from that I would investigate the purified portions suggested earlier in the thread which don't seem to contain added salt (or greatly reduced amounts)

Very glad to see you haven't fled from us!

I'm off to go and watch the highlights of your boys thrashing us in the 3rd test match of the Ashes. hmmmm.

I don't have the exact figures at hand, but it would take about two cans a day to make any noticeable effect on the average human body re: salt content. Nicotine is poses far more of a health risk at that level than any of the flavoring ingredients, including salt.

Chainsnuser is correct; much of the propaganda surrounding salty foods is just propaganda. On the other hand, there are people like me that have "triggers" for high blood pressure, and I had to cut something out of my diet- either nicotine, caffeine, or sodium. So I cut caffeine.

But salt is a necessity for every living human being. The salt that you derive from snus makes no difference one way or another unless you're on a three can a day habit. Even then, you're not even absorbing the bare minimum amount that you need to live on.

DiRhea, welcome to the forum and I don't mean to sound harsh but I've spoken with one of our resident doctors at The Ephemeris (we have a few on staff who, due to obvious legal ramifications, remain anonymous) and s/he claims that if a can of snus and a piece of bread a day was "too much" salt for your body, you would be hooked up to life support right now, in a vegetative state with not much time left to go before your heart exploded. I would suggest a second opinion from a specialist dietician who could give you a better answer than the one your present physician is giving you.

Re: Oliver Twist, it has much more available salt than snus, about twice the amount. The reason is two-fold: it's salted down considerably during manufacture for freshness and the lack of portion material means we absorb more than portioned snus.

But to better answer the OP's question, pretty much all snus has the same amount of salt in it, give or take a milligram. Except for American candy snus. We're working on an article now about the effects of sugar and artificial sweeteners in US snus on diabetics and hypoglycemics such as myself. So far we've determined that our blood sugar spikes while snusing American snus. This, to me, is much more dangerous than blood salt dips in European snus which are pretty much negligible.

I am sorry that you have to live through a condition like that but I think you might be barking up the wrong tree so to speak. Snus is known for it's saltiness and I have never heard of a salt free snus. If your condition is that bad, I wouldn't even be trying to play with snus. Have you thought of trying an ecig or another alternative? Again, I think it sucks that you need to really worry about your salt intake but you might want to consider looking at other alternatives where you will have even more variety without any added salt. Trying to find a snus with no salt is like trying to find a diet soda that tastes great.

Thanks Go - the biggest things that sucks is the reality of low potassium and salt is what causes that for me. Low potassium hypersensitivity is 1 million times worse when you live it as to what it is described as to read it. The muscle pain is omg awesome. But anyway

Ive been on snus for a few months but it was only a couple of days ago that i realised it was salt. So now i just have to find out the levels and then present it to my professor and see if its ok. Whalen worked out those levels for me.

Big smooch whalen and i am wearing a little skimpy gstring haaaa joke

I was just down with out pharmacist who knows our family history pretty well and i talked to him about the snus.

Thing is, i do not eat salt, i do not add salt and most of my food is prepared salt free by me and yet my salt levels are ridiculously high. But the couple of things i allow myself which are high in salt are bread and my juice. I spoke ot the pharmacist and he sees no problem in me eliminating these things and replacing it with my 6 bits of snus until i can get down to my prof and find out for sure.

So as it stands for this moment - i am a snusser But i am not a breader lol

I am not sure if you have room for a garden or are even in to it but several members on here have grown their own tobacco plants and made snus. I can find the threads for you if you are interested.
