Annie, Now that we know a bit more of the situation and, I believe that we all agree, that swallowing snus is somewhat healthier for him than swallowing used ciggy filters. If you think that he will try snus just let me know. I'll be glad to send you some General White portions. If you have discussed this option with him and he seems to be very anxious to try snus then I will send you a roll of 10 tins. Just let me know Dear.

    Glad too help.

    carry on
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Wow thanks so much to those who have given their opinions. Sorry for the late reply. This field is chronically short of people and there are a lot of shifts to fill. You're a doll Mr. Parrot. I think I might give the snus a try. Presently I'm one of a few sources of butts for him and he's like a grumpy shadow waiting for me to go have a smoke. I'd have to bring it to his doctor to put in the record of medication he takes because there is nicotine in it and it will probably have to be "prescribed" and monitored. Although he understands the basics of what is said to him, he is unable verbalize his wants or how he feels. It's more or less levels of yelling - sometimes quieter but more often louder and agitated when he's not left alone by the other residents or he wants something. He has no teeth and I'm pretty sure he sucks the butt between his tongue and the roof of his mouth for awhile before swallowing it so he'd probably do the same thing with the snus packets, assuming he takes it. He has been treated before for an intestinal blockage in the past and quite honestly, I think the effects of his habit have started to catch up to him. He looks like hell - but that could also be from the years of medications he's been on. My philosophy is we can only try to change his habit of eating the butts to something less damaging. He has a right to get the nicotine if that's what he's after and I really wouldn't want to deny him the small pleasures in his life. I just try to picture his body attempting to digest that much foreign material year after year. I really have an obligation to at least see if he'll adjust his habit...

          Annie, consider this dear......

you are a caregiver and are kind enough to help this fellow onto something healthier for him???? And YOU smoke??? Wth, your habit is considerably more harmful to your body than his Dear. There are plenty of women that use snus, especially in Sweden. Snus should make it pretty easy to quit smoking. Go here...

The General White portion snus that I can send you are very popular with the women and would be one of the betters types of snus for your patient to actually consume. Study this for BOTH of your healths sakes.

If you can convert yourself to snus you will find that because of your sincere and caring concern for your patient that your reward could be that YOU stop smoking. And I'm sure you know all about the health problems associated with smoking. Your patients actions are way healthier than your dear. Do your research and think about. Good Luck.
