    Snus and the EU

Are there any indications that the ban on the sale of snus within the EU (except Sweden & Denmark) will be lifted?

Sweden will take over the presidency of the EU on 01-July, is Swedish Match planning to lobby (more than usual) during the Swedish presidency?

PS. Bring back Nick & Johnny East or at least that shape of can!

    Hi Kitabz!

We are convinced that the snus sales ban WILL be lifted, even if we have no idea when! Snus is a product for adults and politicians need to find a balance between the free movement of goods and consumer protection. At the same time, cigarettes are allowed yet no scientist would say snus is anywhere near as dangerous, even though science is something that is never either black or white.

Whether there will be intensified lobbying during the Swedish EU presidency:
The simple answer is NO. Swedish Match belongs to an industry association, the European Smokeless Tobacco Council (ESTOC), whose main role it is to monitor political decisions and then to follow them. Politicians want to make decisions which they understand the consequences of, and many of them are open to hearing about how economic policy affects the industry’s business climate. But at the end of the day, it is not the industry that decides any agenda, it is the citizens and politicians.

PS. Regarding N&J East or the shape of the can, you never know it might get back in the future……

    BR,

    Joakim and Markus
