    Portions and nicotine absorption

I have noticed that portioned snus has less of a "kick" compared to los snus. Is there a reason for this? Does the portion material filter out some of the nicotine? As well, does white portioned snus deliver even less nicotine?

I'm a los user now (finally) and love it way more. What are your brand preferences? I assume you love anything made by Skruf or BAT.

That's odd, I find w/ portions I get much more of a kick, but I may be using less snus when I make pris.

      My theory:

When you have any shape (like a pris) that has nicotine or any other chemical in it, it slowly diffuses out. This creates an outer layer in the pris that is in contact with your saliva and gum that eventually loses it's nicotine. With a los snus, you can easily "reshape" your pris by pressing it with your tongue, etc, in order to get "fresh" snus from the middle of the pris to the outside of the pris and in contact with your gums better. With portions, I don't mess with the tobacco as much.

I agree with the OP, I always thought I got a bit more kick from equivalent-sized los pris than I did with a portion.

I am SO the opposite. The los rarely gets played with, but I am super agressive with my portions. I turn them around, upside down, am constantly moving them about. For me, at least, far easier to "maximize" the portions

I'm in the same boat. I sometimes chew on portions a bit to get the very last drop of flavor. With lös, I'm afraid to move it at all in fear of mudslide. Though, I do enjoy the flavor in lös due to it's less salty content. Which is probably why I enjoy Ettan portions (both white and original) because it's less salty. My last order was a half roll of Ettan Vit, my next will be a full roll of original. I hope my taste buds don't turn on me.

Overuse it and I promise they will. At least that has been my experience.

              Hi guys,
I actually turned to professor Lars Erik Rutqvist our Vice President of Scientific Affairs (also my office neigbour) for this one.

"It is correct that a consumer typically extracts more nicotine from loose snus compared to the same product in pouches. In this context it is important to understand that the proportion of nicotine extracted from all snus products is relatively low, typically only c. 20%, and varies considerably between individuals. The exact mechanisms behind these phenomena are not fully known. Part of the explanation is probably how individual consumers manipulate the snus in their mouth, and that the pouch material to some extent prevents contact between the snus, the saliva, and the oral mucosa."

From personal experience I also get more of a "kick" from loose.

              BR,
              Joakim

So I shouldn't use a meat tenderizer on them prior to using them? I like to soften them up a bit.

                  Damn.
