    Cardboard tins

I freeze my SM. When it thaws, water condenses and ice crystals melt. Is there anything in the cardboard the tin is made out of that can seep into my snus?

I usually defrost my cans in the fridge. This seems to inhibit the condensation quite a bit

Ps: Probably not as its only some kind of wax lining on the inside (I think)

I'd really like to know why paper cans are even used. Does SM own the plant that makes em? Too much investment there to drop paper for plastic?

I wonder this too. I've heard that it had to do with cardboard's moisture retention properties, but I call BS on that as it seems lös snus by other companies that come in plastic hold up much better than cardboard SM tins. Just my perception.

If i had to whether a guess, it's because of a combination of tradition/cost.

......The area we just emerged from was the paper can manufacturing area for loose snus. This area was one of the most interesting for me since Swedish Match is the only snus manufacturer that still uses paper cans for their loose varieties of snus! Even though this part of the factory is proprietary, I can tell you that the cans start out as rolls of paper and come out cans. It was pretty interesting to see them made! ......

I bet plastic cans start out as liquid and come out as cans!

This is second hand information, but someone said that someone from Swedish Match said they continued to use paperboard for tradition's sake. I kind of like the paperboard. I'd be disappointed if they switched to plastic. I would like to see tin lids instead of the plastic. Tin looks nice.

It seems like the lids fit better on the carboard ones. Ive had a can of Grov open for a month on my desk and it's still great. I like the cardboard but I am a little concerned about freezing them.

Almost sprayed Coke all over my monitor. Funniest line ever heppycat.

I too, like the paper/cardboard cans SM uses for the General los. Mostly because it is different, and I like the look and feel.

I like the paper cans. If I ordered my standard roll of Ettan loose and opened the package to find that the cans were now plastic, I'd be pretty sad.

Tin lids are a good idea though. It would definitely enhance the pre-existing traditional feel of the cans.

                        Speaking of cans...

I like to carry a variety with me but do not like to carry multiple cans.
Is there anywhere to get a can that is compartmentalized so that I can carry various snus in one can and keep them seperated?

                        What do y'all do?

It would be neat if they made a plastic can/cardboard from 100% recyclable material and could be recycled after your done. On 2nd thought, I think my cardboard absorbed some of the tobacco juice so you couldn't use that but definitely if I had portions or whites in there you could make one.

I actually like the cardboard tins over the plastic. Just gives it a more authentic feeling. One thing though is that sometimes I get lids that do not fit good on the cardboard tins. It was some general at the time I think when it happened. It was as if they made the lid a tad to big.

                              Hi,
You don't have to worry about freezing your cans. Though a good advice is to defrost them in the fridge as it prevents ice crystals. The can material is approved to be used for food products and you don't need to worry about it to "seep" into you snus. You probably eat frozen food whithout worrying and you can be worryless in the same way with your frozen snus.

Regarding the choice of can material:
We buy the plastic cans from a subsupplier.
We purchase the paperboard material but make it into cans ourselves.

Paperboard material (today made by recycled paper) have traditionally been used for the packaging of snus for a very very long time. When we introduced pouches we found them to dry to quickly in paperboard cans and so we introduced the plastic cans. For loose however we have stuck to the traditional way and it seems that this is how most of our consumers likes it.

                              Over and out,
