    Conveniance stores

Just wondering why it's taking so long to get snus into convenience stores in America.
Here in Indiana, we buy 90% of our tobacco from corner gas stations and convenience stores.
Only enthusiasts are buying your product, because it's not available to 90% of our population.
I respect the grass roots approach, but people need this product now..
Is there something blocking the progress?

It takes a lot of time and money to do something like that. I would think SM would be the only ones who could pull it off at the moment, and it is a huge gamble. Now would be the time to do it though, with Camel, Marlboro, and 60 Minutes still fresh in the mind. They would also need a huge advertising campaign, and everyone knows that tobacco products are the hardest things to advertise in America.

Also would need new fridge space. Those stores are already packed pretty tight. And who's gonna pay for the fridges?

I agree with this sentiment. SMNA has dip at the gas stations/groceries, they could get their snus in these places, but I also could see Camel and Marlboro try and stop them. Even Tourney/Grand Prix, and even Triumph were at gas station, and Triumph was not refrigerated. I think the "need" for them to be refrigerated is a big problem. Why wasn't Triumph refrigerated? And it was moist. They need to divise a way to not "need" to refrigerate them, I am sure there is a way, the General samplers don't need it, and get some cans on the dip rack next to the other SMNA products.

Only reason I dip, instead of snus, is because I can't buy it anywhere..
We're not talking about a small no name mom and pop small business here.
SM is big tobacco.. If they wanted to. It would have been done already. They're already in almost every corner station in the country with other products.
I said what a lot of folks are thinking, like it or not, we are waiting for SM to quit messing around on the internet and get it done.

I read from their Swedish consumer website that the company is experimenting with ways to package snus that does not require refrigeration. For example, Triumph snus and General Sampler packages do not require refrigeration. Using the same packaging technology from Triumph snus would cut costs and allow General snus to be sold at numerous convenience stores across America.

If I could get a can of General at the corner gas station, I'd be fine with it. As long as it was not over $4 tops.

I'm totally down for having snus available everywhere. I hope they do it. Just seems like nobody knows what it is around here. Actually I met another snuser last night in a dream, so that's a start.

thunder berry flavor in non refrigerated cans right next to the skoal would be mighty convenient.

See, I don't have a problem with paying $4 or $5 for a can of snus at a B&M store. I just did a dummy order at Northerner for just 1 can of General White. Even coming from the US warehouse, the cheapest shipping right now is $6. That one can is going to cost you $9.35. Granted, you can add more cans without adding much to shipping costs, but if I knew for a fact that the nearest B&M was going to stick with snus in the long run, I'd probably stop ordering online or cut way way back. I wouldn't feel the need to buy roll after roll the way I've been doing. I could handle only buying 2 cans at a time.

Well said. It would still be cheaper and safer then smoking. God I would kill for a can of Triumph Mint.

Soon, when we are paying full taxes anyway, it will be cheaper to buy 1 and 2 cans locally. Bulk discounts and wider variety are the way online suppliers will survive post PACT. I if my closest B&M will carry my brand, I probably won't order online unless the math works out in favor of bulk orders.

I used to order American Spirit RYO through the mail, and it was only modestly cheaper than buying it locally. I like the convenience of having it delivered. It saves me a special trip to the store. When RJR bought them out, mail orders ceased; I assume due to the tobacco settlement.

Good luck with that - I have asked numerous places that I shop at if they would carry Swedish snus. They all start with "sure, we can get any king of tobacco product you want". Then when you go back after a few weeks they say "my distributor doesn't carry Swedish snus and we only use one distributor". So the only other option around here is to pay $7.00 bucks a can for General OP at the mall and they don't carry any other brands.

Isn't Northerner opening up a distribution arm? I vaguely remember seeing a link or something.
