Edit:
A very kind Swede sent me a vintage Swedish Match tin lid. I've thought about using it, but don't want to trash it with daily use. It would be nice if they'd start using tin lids again.

Yea its rather telling of how bias the FDA and the anti's are when we know for a fact smokeless is actually safer than smoking tobacco just because you are not inhaling anything. Since they can not outright ban tobacco they are gonna stack the deck in their favor as much as they can. Dont be surprised when the FDA actually gets down to regulating the contents in tobacco that the regulations they put into effect will be heavily influenced by American Big Tobacco. Some contrived reason may/will be put in place that causes Swedish Snus to be banned for sale over here.
Dont say that it cant happen. I have already seen it happen with RYO tobacco getting slammed with a massive tax on it. Phillip Morris was behind that. RYO was eating into their profits or at least would have continued to do so because people where finding it far cheaper to buy in bulk and roll their own cigs rather than buying by the carton or pack. American Big Tobacco will defend its market share aggressively and they have the money and lobbyists to do it.
And I dont know if you guys know this but a lot of the RYO manufacturers relabeled their products as pipe tobacco and changed the cut in some cases to avoid the taxes. Some government "do gooders" seen this change and instead of going about it the smart way and forcing RYO to be properly labeled legislation as been introduced to up the tax on a pound of pipe tobacco by 775% to cover the perceived loss in taxes. The tax will be $24.78 a pound if it goes into effect.

This PACT/FDA stuff is only the first emergency of many more to come. The future isn't looking good for us. I'm half tempted to pick up smoking again, but be a complete asshole about it. I'll fire up cigarettes in stores, movies, elevators... schools :^P They can put me jail since I certainly won't pay any fines. I'll then start my hunger strike :^D
Edit:
I'll try to get a pic of the lid up. I was going to before, but I can't find the SD card for my camera. I can take pictures without it, but it's a bigger PITA to get them on the computer. I need to find the card anyway.

I get a kick out of the coffers. People who gag and wheeze when around smokers. I have been tempted to take my pipe and put nothing in it an walk around and see if I can get them going and then pray that some one asks me to put it out because it is bothering them and then show them that its all in their head because there is nothing in the pipe. People pizz me off. freaking sheep.

All this malarkey does make one wonder what other bald-faced lies the FDA is complicit in spreading. As far as I'm concerned their credibility has sunk past zero and from now on I'm going to assume that whatever new regulations they implement have the same factual basis as snus can labels, i.e. none.

Found my SD card. It was under a bunch of snuff tins :^D
Here's the picture. I think they used generic lids years ago, and all the brands had the same Swedish Match logo. My keyboard's kind of gross. I notice the funk more in the picture than I do in person :^/

Ya know, thinking about it... There's a lot of ways the snus companies could hook use up with tins that don't look retarded. If they sold tins with a metal bottom cap for protection during shipping, there's no reason us enterprising snusers couldn't use that bottom as a lid once we've received the snus. Also, they could put the snus in nice HEAVY plastic tins around xmas time. Have the plastic actually printed with the product branding, and put the stickers on top of that. AFAIK, there's no law that says you have to throw that tin out. If the packrats amongst us started putting our snus in those tins, well I don't think anyone would have a say in it, no?

lxskllr Thanks for putting that pic up thats really cool. Yea I like the cans as they are but it'd be kickass to have a snus tin that was durable and had a picture etched or carved on it. Man if I had a wood lathe and knew how to cut threads in wood I would make some wood snus tins and laser etch some logos and what not on them. Got some killer ideas but no tools to bring them to life with.
Can you imagine a Jakobsson's tin done in wood with the ship and compass points laser etched into it! Minus the warning labels of course.
