    Snus As Chewing Tobacco?

I'm a bit curious about this: I've gotten about 4 packages of Snus from Northerner in the past few months, and the contents identification on the label says "Chewing Tobacco". Sometimes they specify numbers (cost?) as 100, or on up to 250. What's up with the "Chewing Tobacco" remark? Does anyone know? Do you folks in other Countries get this label specification "Chewing Tobacco" as well, or what does your packages usually state?

    I mean, the first order (ever) from Northerner did include a pack of XQ's, and Oliver Twist's so-called Chewing Tobacco Bits, so I thought maybe that was what the stamp was refering to, but all the other packages only had Snus cans. Mind ya, this is the company that has a 'how to Snus' video out saying, 'don't chew it';

I understand that the EU Ban on Smokeless Tobacco does not include "Chewing Tobacco" (thus, things like Oliver Twist Products are legal for sale in EU Countries and communities). Perhaps Northerner has a handful of premade labels to ease the transition through Customs better, into these Countries as well as some other Countries (non-EU), even though Snus is legal to have (in the Country, whether imported for personal use, or one way or another)? Seems to me, it might be worst to have the contents identified as "Chewing Tobacco" in some Countries, especially where duty fees and taxes are concerned.

Thanks in advance to anyone/everyone for any input!

i did not notice my packages from them saying anything on the outside to imply what was on the inside. of course knowing exactly what was in the packages myself i just dove right in and didn't really inspect the package too much.

i am back to ordering pretty much exclusively from buysnus.com for loose cans, i'll take a look at that one, though i have read that they state snus on the outter pkg.

btw, i see you here a lot, used to see you at SMPost when i would go there, and the snusform (R.I.P.) Have you checked out the yahoo snus group yet?

    cheers,
    Scott

Yea, that is one thing I am curious about...what buysnus.com identifies the contents of their packages, and what Country the reciever is in. I see you are in the U.S. too.

I'm also curious about what the packages from Northerner into other Countries state the contents as, too.

Thanks for the Yahoo Group reference - I have bookmarked it and will join. Ettan is my fave, though I do like some others pretty well.

I haven't ordered from Northener but I can tell you that both BuySnus and Snusbutiken don't put ANY identifying marks on their packages. Only your name and address. That's it.

Could be that they simply use "chewing tobacco" as a generic name to identify it to US customs - being it's a term they know they'll understand. I'm sure it saves time at the border. If they wrote "snus" then the border guard might be like "hrm...wtf is snus??" and decide that it needs to be opened and strip-searched in a time-consuming procedure which means your snus is not cold for a longer period of time...

Well, I have ordered from both Northerner and Buysnus, and Northerner always puts chewing tobacco, and Buysnus always puts Swedish Snus on the customs labels. I've never had a problem with customs ordering from either. The only problem I had was when I got a Northerner order shipped UPS, they tried to deliver it when I was working, and I had to go to the UPS Package center to sign for it, but I've never had a problem through regular post.

Like I said: there's nothing identifying the contents (atleast on packages to Holland. I guess because Sweden and Holland are both EU countries it's not needed?)

Yeah, same in the UK - no declaration. Inside the EEA there's no need for customs forms since you don't have to pay duties or taxes when taking personal, retail-purchased goods from one country to another. I think it's only if you're moving industrial or commercial-scale quantities of products that you need to worry about tarrifs, etc. Outside the european economic area, though, you always have to have a customs declaration form on parcels shipped abroad.

BuySnus wrote "Swedish Snus" on the customs form for my last delivery.

I've had the same thoughts, plus if there was no contents specified at all, they would pry their eyes into the package to see what the contents is.

Did you have to pay any custom/brokerage fees for the UPS Delivery? Just curious because I saw some complaints of those in the U.S that got hit with these fees - could be a matter of weight and/or cost limits.

What's EEA? "European Eeconomic Area"? Thought that might be it since ya mentioned it in the context

Everything okay with that? BuySnus just ships postal don't they?

Kinda like State To State in the U.S. I guess.
